Martin Clunes Picks Winner

The winner of the 2005 Pollyanna Pickering Foundation grand prize draw had a double surprise when their ticket was drawn – it was actor Martin Clunes who made the ‘phone call to tell them the good news!

Martin, famed for his roles in the popular TV series ‘Men behaving badly’ and ‘Doc Martin’ is a great animal lover, and pleased to support the Foundation’s work. He took time out of his hectic filming schedule to draw the winning tickets, and then personally made the call to the first prize winner. ‘I couldn’t believe it when the phone rang’ Mrs Varty of Alfreton told us ‘and it was Martin Clunes telling us we had just won one of Pollyanna’s wonderful paintings! I am still recovering from the surprise – I have never been phoned by a celebrity before.’ Mrs Varty is the lucky winner of Pollyanna’s original painting of a white tiger, the second prize winner Mrs Underwood of Nottingham has recieved a framed limited edition print if a tiger, while a further nine runners up have also been sent signed limited edition prints.

Between the sales of prize draw tickets, tickets, and percentage of sales donated by Pollyanna from the “Land of the Snow Tiger” exhibition, the Foundation has raised £5415.00 for the current campaign. The money will be used to begin work on building a tiger orphanage, adjacent go a rehabilitation sanctuary in the Chitwan National Park in India. When poachers kill adult female tigers, the cubs, which are no good to them, are often left to starve. The orphanage will rear these cubs, with the aim of releasing back into the wild once they are fully grown.
